Family Camping Tents that WORK!

Nexus Family Camping Tent
Hi Dan, thanks for your email

We LOVE hearing from a satisfied customer and we want to post your testimony on our site

Glad to hear that the tent is working well for you and your family!

If in the future, you require additional CEC items, use this discount code for and additional 10% off: "loyalty"

I have purchased your NEXUS 12 man tent and this weekend was our first outing in it. My wife and I and 8 children had LOTS of room left over. It rained for 10 hours straight and it only leaked through a small tear in the top, but barely. We fixed the tear with your patch kit that came with the tent. Absolutely AWESOME TENT!!!!!!! We sat up playing cards with the kids while outside it rained and thundered constantly. Inside....pure bliss!!! Thanks for an AMAZING product.

CEC customer service: secondary rain fly for your tent

Hi Greg, thanks for your email

Currently we don't offer this type of accessory for any of our tents

However, a quick and dirty improvisation is for you to sling up a basic PE tarp suspended over the tent (using trees or other attachment points with a peak to draw water down and away from the tent)

This method of keeping some space between the tarp and the tent surface is preferred because it doesn't interfere with ventilation of your tent (responsible for interior moisture as much as the weather is) while providing you with a secondary layer of water resistance

Hello

Recently I purchased the Axis + Zulu combination, no complaints, easy tents to set up spacious etc.

I have a question though, I would like to put a fly over the pods (Zulu's I think). Do you have some product to be able to do this? or some recommendation?

Or even a fly for the entire tent, ( although I do think that maybe a bit over the top) (all puns intended)

MARS 6 person family camping dome tent: Q&A

Hi Raphael, CEC tents are particularly popular during Burning Man and the Mars is a good option for that

Yes, you can close off the inside of the tent area completely from the outside to prevent dust entering the sleeping area

The rain fly and main floor are sewn together and then the removable sleeping area also has its own floor

This means that when you set up the inner sleeping tent inside the rain fly covered main tent, you have a 2 layer system: a breathable inner tent and water proof floor PLUS water proof rain fly and water proof floor ie 2 layer floor!

Dear CEC,

I am considering buying the Mars tunnel tent for burning man this year. I am looking for a tent that keeps the dust out of the sleeping area. Could you please let me know if the inside tent can be completely sealed from the rest - i.e. that is has it's own floor? Or does it share the floor with the rest of the tent?

Many thanks in advance!

Raphael

BBQ RULES

BBQ RULES
We are about to enter the BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:
Routine...

(1)
The woman buys the food.
(2)
The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables and makes dessert.
(3)
The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - drink in hand.
(4)
The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman.
Here comes the important part:
(5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.
More routine...
(6)
The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
(7)
The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another drink while he flips the meat.
Important again:
(8)
THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.
More routine...
(9)
The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauce and brings them to the table.
(10)
After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.
And most important of all:
(11)
Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIMfor his cooking efforts.
(12)
The man asks the woman how she enjoyed her 'night off,' and, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women.

The GOBI family tent: Fully sewn in ground sheet?

Hi Michelle, the ground sheet is fully sewn in throughout the tent apart from the front porch area under the awning - this is a tub style ground sheet fully sewn into the rain fly

There is also a secondary sheet sewn into the inner sleeping tent effectively giving you a 2 layer water proof floor in the sleeping area

Hope that answers your question but let us know if you require further info

Hello.
My husband and I really like the gobi 6 person tunnel . We have a few questions: 1 is the ground sheets swen into the tent itself? It says on your website that it is just in sleeping area. We have seen another tent just like this one overseas and it states that it has a fully swen in ground sheet. how well does the rain fly work if it does go all the way down?

Sometimes they arrive together and sometimes they arrive separately

BURNING MAN 2011: Which tent do you need?

Hi Jules, thanks for your email

It seems the BBB rating is due to insufficient data they have on us

Hi,
I was Ebay bidding on the HULA 4 tent- I would have gone a bit higher then the actual final selling price if you had answered a few questions-so I'm back again.

I will be living in a tent for 2 weeks-in some harsh conditions- Kindly consider this is an important purchase for me. With CEC's no return/exchange only policy
Please note that we are happy to replace, exchange or refund your purchase as per our Product Guarantee

and no outlet to view the tent in the USA,
Please note that while we don't have retail outlets throughout the USA, we've made every effort to provide as much meaningful product information (including detailed pictures) regarding all of our products and services

We are also ready to answer any questions you have prior to your purchase to ensure that CEC products meet your requirements

you should expect lots of questions from a new, potential buyer with lots of friends looking for tents this year. (-I estimate that 40,000 people sleep in tents at Burning Man- the other 20,000 in RV's)   I hate to say it, but I will: Your F rating- albeit from one person- with the BBB

Please note that the BBB unilaterally imposed their rating stating lack of sufficient info regarding the CEC

CEC customer service takes all customer emails extremely seriously and makes the utmost attempt to amicably resolve each unique situation to the customer's full satisfaction

This does not always include sending personal and private transaction information to a 3rd parties as per our Privacy Policy
make me extra cautious spending 300$. However, your tents are so perfect in theory that I persist.

This is what I am looking for:

  1. A tent that will completely zip close. Windows, Doors. Top- does anyone make this? See--I would avoid the mesh roof too,if it's possible.
As per our previous email, we suggest you consider a tent from our Premium Tent Range, starting with the Mars 6 person family camping tent
  1. Water proof-no other seam sealing required?
Correct, as per the specs on each tent, the rain fly is PU coated and seam taped and no further water proof treatment is required - please note that additions or adjustments to the tent after purchase will void the warranty
  1. The HULA 4 - is it a complete floor that attaches to the interior tent?
No it is not, there is a built in floor in the sleeping areas only but and a removable ground sheet in the central living area
  1. Please tell me how the "removable floor" attaches? Is it within the confines of the "bathtub floor" you offer?  As I wrote before there is white space in the photography and it's very hard to tell how the inner and outer tent attach.
The ground sheet in the HULA model is merely a water resistant tarp like material that is staked into the ground
  1. Zip enclosed rooms within  the tent- not a curtain but actual zippers. It's dusty out there!
Yes the sleeping areas include actual zippered doors and not curtains
  1. I am taking this tent to Burning Man: There is heat, wind, cold nights, playa dust and possibly rain. You say your tents are for summer camping-but they seem built for these conditions. I don't expect anyone to guarantee a gale force wind-in a family tent- but how long are your stakes? Will I need to buy longer ones?
We cannot comment on the weather conditions on the area you intend to use your tent but will suggest that if in doubt, prudence suggest you go prepared with additional materials
  1. I want sleep space- the four man is fine- it appears a double or queen mattress will fit in the HULA -4 rooms- is that the case with your other tents?
Yes this is the case with the majority of CEC tents, but bear in mind that different manufacturers can build double, dual, queen etc sized mattresses to their own dimensions eg a "small" garment from one supplier may equal a "medium" from another

Thank you again for your time- I hope you will answer my question and we can do business together.
Don't mention it, we're happy to answer your questions prior to your purchase to ensure CEC products meet you needs

Very kind regards,

Jules

MARS 6 person family camping dome tent: Q&A

Hi Geoff, thanks for your email

Please see replies below:

On Thu, Feb 24, 2011 at 8:45 PM, Geoff

We have received the Mars Tent and there are a couple of questions and comments.

I cannot erect this tent in my courtyard and I will not have time to erect take it elsewhere to do so before we leave for our Music Festival so could you clarify a few things please?

·         I was rather surprised to see PVC tube used as a tent support  in Australia. I would expect it to bow in hot weather. Can you assure me that it is suitable for Australian summer days please?. The website did not tell me it wouldn’t be. (42 degrees can certainly bend PVC downpipes)
We use PVC pipes on these tents because they are lighter in weight than standard steel and fiber glass poles, universal in size and availability and suitable for supporting larger heavier tent models such as the Mars
After many successful sales season in AU, we have not experienced any issues with PVC failure as a result of AU heat
·         Is this stable in winds please?. The PVC tubes and connectors seem to rely totally on the guys to retain their integrity. Not something I have experienced in previous tents.
As this is a tunnel tent, guy ropes are essential to maintaining the shape and stability of the tent - please note however that CEC tents are not intended for use in extreme weather conditions
·         There are two off “Long PP webbing” included in the package and Instruction 4 tells us to attach these at “both ends” but the two pieces are different from each other. Which one goes where, and why please?
The PP webbing straps are tougher than most standard guy lines and better suited to maintaining the shape and stability of tents in this class - in this case, they attach at either of the long ends of the Mars tunnel tent with the longer PP webbing strap attaching to the door end of the tent and the shorter one attaching at the vent end of the tent
·         Fortunately we have 14 or more, substantial steel pegs as the plastic ones supplied would be unusable in the hard ground on many an Australian campsite.
·         The Repair Kit has shock cord and two attached CEC rectangles. What do we ‘repair’ with these things please? The spare guys are obvious. Perhaps the shock cord is for use with the guys? The two rectangles are mysterious.
The repair kit includes 2 self adhesive patches usable in the event that you puncture or rip the fabric of the tent and helps minimize further damaging the tent fabric
·         What supports the “eye lid” sections over the entry point please? Is it perhaps just restrained by two of the guys?
The awning above the side door is supported by the small fiber glass poles as in the picture below:

·         The packaging does not seem to contain a Warranty Document. We would like one for our records please.

Thanks again for your business, if you require further assistance, please let us know

How do I minimize condensation build up inside my tent?

Hi Elaine, thanks for your enquiry

ALL CEC tents come with a water resistant rain fly - polyurethane coated with seam taping to reduce water ingress

All tents regardless of brand will have some degree of condensation build up inside the tent - this is not a fault, just a product of having people sleeping in a shelter - when you exhale, you exhale a small amount of moisture which can build up over time

ALL CEC tents have breathable polyester inner tents with built in mesh vents that help increase air flow so that moisture laden air can circulate to the outdoors while fresh air can enter - similar to keeping a window or door open in your bedroom when you sleep

Follow these tips and you'll increase your level of comfort over night!

Hi,

The 'Mars' states that it is waterproof with no extra fly included but my customer is wondering on the extent of condensation? My customer previously bought a tent that stated that is was also waterproof but when they woke in the morning, all of their bedding etc was wet from condensation. How does the 'Mars' handle this?

Please advise.

Thanks
Elaine
